Letters and memoirs of James Everard (1796-1825).

Letters (manuscript copies) from James Everard to his father sent from HMS LEANDER regarding the bombardment of Algiers and aftermath. Mentions also of Lord Exmouth and accounts of the ship and crew while at harbour in Gibraltar and during battle. Also hand written memoirs, which include extracts from James's father's writings and letters from James to his father, extracts from diaries kept by James, and a small piece by Margaret Blencowe, his grandmother (whose name also appears on the envelope enclosing the LEANDER letters). It is unclear exactly who wrote the memoirs, but the writer, between extracts, refers to James as 'my son', so it can be inferred that it was one of his parents, James Everard (of Lowestoff) or Elizabeth (daughter of Henry Prescott Blencowe). James Everard was their only son. He was a Lieutenant in the Royal Navy, born in 1796 in Norfolk, died in 1825, and buried in Bangor Church, near his place of death.
