Sketchbook including a drawing of HMS GUARDIAN arriving in Table Bay

Papers of Captain Edward Riou (1762-1801): Sketchbook containing drawings and notes, with some loose material. There are coastal profiles and sketch maps of St Helena, Ascension island and land near to Cape Town, Cape Colony. One watercolour shows the arrival of HMS GUARDIAN in Table Bay on 22 February 1790. Another is a view of the Kirsten estate north of Cape Town, also recording the shooting of a hippopotamus on the bank of the River Berg.
