Document signed by James Southerne, Secretary to the Admiralty, fl. 1690-1694
The OXFORD and NORWICH are now in the Downs, having received such damage ( the former by running on a Rock at Guernsey, and the other by having the back of her Rudder beaten off) that it is necessary they should be brought into Port to be repaired.
I am commanded by the Admiralty Commissioners to desire you will let me know by this evening to what places you would advise their being brought to be repaired.
