2 March 1794 Lord Chatham resigned on 17th December 1794 as First Lord of the Admiralty and was appointed Lord Privy Seal, and the Earl of Spencer who held that office was appointed in his place. In January 1795 Mr Broderick, counsel for the Admiralty died and Mr Perceval, brother to Lord Arden of the Admiralty was appointed in his place
