A history of the Rickmers family and the founding and operation of the Rickmers Firm and Rickmers Line and their shipbuilding operations. Based in Bremerhaven and later Hamburg, and with a reputation for building fast ships, the company moved from building sailing vessels to iron steamships. Illustrated with photographs and plates of their vessels, family members and directors and managers. A list of staff is provided as at the date of publication along with a list of those who died in the First World War. Appendices review the fleet as at 1934, list representatives of the line, detail the growth of the company in terms of tonnage and type of vessel, and provide fleet lists of ships built on their own account and for third parties.
