De Fluxu et refluxu Maris : de diversis motibus aque maris opiniones /Jacobus de Dondis ; a cura di Aldo Bullo.

"The volume reproduces as accurately as possible the original copy of the manuscript preserved in the Biblioteca Ambrosiana, Milan, Italy with a trascription of the fourteenth century text together with Italian and English traslations. Jacopo Dondi, a multi talented engineer, was a doctor in Chioggia from 1313-1344, and in 1355, when he had already moved to Padua, he published a book on tides. It can be surely assumed that Jacopo had already begun work on this treatise while he was a resident of Venice; for as he walked alongside its canal, he was able to benefit from direct experience of the movements of the sea. From these experiences he was able to formulate the laws by which the astronomical positions of the sun and the moon governed the movement of the water."
