The author traces the post Second World War development of the ships and English Channel routes with which SNCF (Societe Nationale des Chemins de Fer Francais) was involved. It gives historical accounts of the routes from Newhaven to Dieppe, Dunkirk to Dover and Calais to Folkestone. A fleet list in chronological order is included with a brief history of each of the ships. Coloured and black and white photographs are used throughout for illustration.
