1900: the new age : a guide to the exhibition
The official guide to "1900: The New Age", an exhibition held at the Whipple Museum of the History of Science at L'Exposition Universelle - the world fair held in Paris in 1900. At that time, Europeans were very concerned with what the next century had in store for them and this huge International Exhibition showcased the many different and conflicting visions that leading designers, inventors, businessmen, manufacturers, scientists and industrialists had of the twentieth century to come. "1900: The New Age" presented these various visions and displayed some of the machines, apparatus, inventions and designs from the fields of art (including the emerging aesthetic of Art Nouveau), engineering, science, astronomy, cinema, travel and technology, among others, that were on show to the over 50 million visitors to the fair. Black and white photos of the exhibition included.
