Irish wrecks of the Spanish Armada
In 1588 the Armada, a fleet of 130 ships, was sent by Philip II of Spain with the intention of invading England. Bad weather forced the ships to turn back but twenty or so were wrecked on or near the Irish coast with a loss of some 11,000 lives. The author describes the excavations of the Girona, the Santa Maria de la Rosa, La Trinidad Valencera, The Juliana, The Lavia and the Santa Maria de Vision. Includes colour photographs of some of the artefacts discovered.
