The last hero : Bill Tilman : a biography of the explorer
A biography of Bill Tilman, mountaineer, sailor and explorer. Awarded the Military Cross twice in the First World War, Tilman went on to form a climbing partnership with Eric Shipton. Together they explored and climbed in the Himalaya and Karakoram regions and played leading roles in British Everest expeditions prior to the Second World War. After the war, Tilman took up deep-sea sailing on Mischief, a gaff-rigged Bristol pilot cutter sailing in both Antarctic and Arctic waters. Tilman disappeared while sailing in Antarctic waters during his eightieth year.
