The life and adventures of John Nicol, mariner

This is the republished account of the life of an ordinary sailor, Scottish-born John Nicol (1755-1825) who circumnavigated the globe twice, visiting six continents on voyages to the West Indies, Greenland, the South Pacific, China, Australia and the eastern Mediterranean. Nicol's story was originally published by John Howell in 1822 and describes his voyages and encounters. These include voyages on a whaling ship, the convict ship Lady Juliana, part of the second fleet taking female convicts to Australia, time spent living with enslaved people in Jamaica and fighting during the French Revolutionary Wars in the Goliath at the Battle of the Nile.
