Bridgwater and the River Parrett : in old photographs
With chapters covering Burnham-on-Sea, Highbridge, Combwich, Dunball, Bridgwater and Langport, this book illustrates through historical black-and-white photographs the story of river trade on the River Parrett from its source in north Dorset to its mouth near Burnham-on-Sea in Somerset. Trade was at its peak during the nineteenth century and the Bridgwater docks opened in 1841. Boats featured in the photographs include the steamships Parret, Enid and Crowpill, schooners Chard, Lilla and Irene, ketches Fanny Jane, Sunshine and Good Templar, and indigenous boats such as flatners and trows.
