Escape from catastrophe : 1940 Dunkirk
An overview of the evacuation of Dunkirk in 1940 providing a narrative account of the evacuation with a focus on the Allies. Also provided are first-hand accounts from some of the soldiers who were being evacuated, as well as some of the author's own memories as a child growing up while the evacuation was taking place. The account focuses on both the soldiers in Dunkirk and those involved in the rescue operations back in England, from the high command to volunteers involved on the trains taking soldiers away from the ports upon their arrival in England. As well as focusing on the military personnel involved in the evacuation, several chapters are dedicated to those involved with the 'Little Ships' and the key role they played. Includes several black and white photographs relating to the evacuation. A brief epilogue details what happened to the boats written about and the people interviewed in the book.
