Hoe Chu Fou Toe a Chinese Fort near Canton
Hoe Chu Fou Toe (Dutch Folly Fort) was one of the most popular motifs for Western artists visiting Canton from 1780. It was an oval fort built by Dutchmen on a sand bar in the Canton River. It lay about 800 metres to the east of the foreign factories and was guarded by forty soldiers and twenty-six guns.
