The destroyer Onslow (1941) and the frigate Dacres (1943) alongside the Promontory in No. 3 Basin, Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire.
An aerial bow view of the 17th Destroyer Flotilla's destroyer Onslow (1941) berthed alongside the south wall of the Promontory in No. 3 Basin, Portsmouth Dockyard, taken from the 250 ton hammerhead crane looking east. Berthed outboard of the Onslow (1941) and seen from high above her port quarter is the frigate Dacres (1943), which is fitted out as the Headquarters Ship for Assault Group SWORD 2 and has the pendant K472. At the top of the picture is the minesweeper Worthing (1941) of the 15th MS Flotilla, pendant number J72, with the Canadian corvette Baddeck (1940), pendant K147, inboard. The minesweeper Pickle (1943) of the 7th MS Flotilla, inboard of the Baddeck (1940), is out of the picture. Resident photographer Robert William Wheeler took the photograph using a 5" x 4" press plate camera, assisted by Mr Fred E Wooden. Vertical format.
