The south-west side of No. 2 Basin, Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire
Looking west-south-west from the gantry of the travelling crane on the south side of the Tidal Basin showing the south-west side of No. 2 Basin, Portsmouth Dockyard. M.G. House No. 19A and No. 11 Dry Dock caisson are in the foreground. The Mark 3 tank landing craft LCT 456 (1943) is manoeuvring in the basin. On the west side is the Mark 2 tank landing ship LST 320 (1942) of the 1st LST Flotilla. Astern of her is a trot of three Mark 4 tank landing craft, two of which are using camouflage netting. The nearest two of these craft are fitted with Mulong heavy tank ramp extensions. Boiler Road and No. 2 Ship Shop can be seen in the background. The photograph was taken by Portsmouth Dockyard's resident photographer Robert William Wheeler using a 5" x 4" press plate camera.
