Looking west-south-west from the north-east corner of No. 1 Basin, Portsmouth Dockyard, showing the north-west corner of the basin. In the foreground berthed on the north side of the basin is a 70 ft motor fishing vessel acting as a naval stores carrier. Beyond her ar a motor launch, a smaller motor fishing vessel tender, a lighter and the Minnedosa (1901), a former spritsail barge converted to a motor barge. An 0-4-0- saddle tank steam locomotive is on Sheer Jetty, as is the coastal stores carrier C 625 (1944). The escort destroyer Goathland (1942), pendant number L27, is on Pitch House Jetty. The Clarence Victualling Yard, Gosport, is in the background. The photograph was taken by Portsmouth Dockyard's resident photographer Robert William Wheeler using a 5" x 4" press plate camera.
