A snake charmer on board the general cargo heavy lift ship Empire Elaine (1942) at Chittagong, East Pakistan.

A study of a snake charmer demonstrating his talent on board the general cargo heavy lift ship Empire Elaine (1942) in port at Chittagong, East Pakistan. He is sitting cross legged on a rug, wearing an open turban and heavily patterned skirt-like garment. The Indian cobra is facing him with its hood spread, clearly showing the spectacle pattern on the back of the hood. The man is using a single 6 note pipe, not a traditional bulged pungi, and his snake is on the rug, not in a traditional basket. This man may well be a member of the crew of the Empire Elaine. Vertical format. See also negatives numbers N90943 and N90958 which show different men sitting on the same rug, wearing the same garment and charming the same snake with the same pipe. The snake hasn't moved a muscle in all three negatives and may be stuffed!
