Five engineers with a banner on board the general cargo heavy lift ship Empire Elaine (1942) while in the South China Sea.
A group of five unidentified ship's engineers on board the general cargo heavy lift ship Empire Elaine (1942) while under way in the South China Sea. They are standing on the starboard side of the boat deck aft and are holding up a banner on which is the wording 'L.O.L. Empire Elaine. Temperance. 0001 with the logo of a ladder either side of a six pointed star'. Two of the men are holding bottles, one has a tin whistle, one has a mouth organ and one has an inverted biscuit tin to use as a drum. The photographer is looking forward and to starboard. The photographer notes that this is the Orange Day celebrations, presumably referring to the Battle of the Boyne which took place on 1 July 1690 in the Julian calendar. Vertical format. Negatives numbers N90960 to N90964 inclusive were taken at the same time.
