Lighters on the River Hooghly at Calcutta.
Three lighters on the River Hooghly at Calcutta. The photographer is looking down on their sterns from the deck of the general cargo heavy lift ship Empire Elaine (1942) and this photograph shows the differences in the types of stern and accommodation shelters fitted to these vessels. The outboard lighter has the number A3304 on it and the centre vessel has a large letter B on the side of her shelter.
