Hermes (1953). A dining hall during conversion.
A 35mm roll film negative. On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) in Devonport Dockyard in June 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is below decks in a dining hall. Four tables and a number of tubular steel chairs are laid out. On the right is a drinking water cooler, a cold sweet cabinet with plate racks above it and the serving counter with the roller shutter open. A dresser unit and other cupboards are against the end bulkhead. The photographer has allocated the number 5 to this location.
