Hermes (1953). In the hangar (3 deck) during conversion.
A 35mm roll film negative. On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) in the north yard of Devonport Dockyard in June 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is on the port side of the hangar at 87 station on 3 deck looking to starboard. On the starboard bulkhead are chemical foam drums, four nitrogen bottles, a drop tank winch, an A/C hydraulic servicing trolley and hose and a bomb lift. Stored high up on the hangar wall are large crates for 814 Squadron and three drop tanks. Chained to the deck is a large metal container for rotor blades and two other long flat containers are in front of it.
