On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the conversion machinery room between 31 and 35½ stations on the starboard side of 3 deck looking aft and to port from 32 station showing the door to the compartment on the right with an automatic emergency lantern and two fire extinguishers next to it. A Muirhead Multra Control System gyro unit and a motor generator are mounted on deck next to the port bulkhead and two change over switch panels are above them. A battery storage unit is in the centre of the picture. Two starter panels and a telephone junction box are against the aft bulkhead. An automatic emergency lantern and a telephone are fitted to a pillar on the left.
