Selected Ship's Meteorological Logbook
This is an example of a standardised meteorological logbook issued by the Met Office. The log is desgined for use on 'Selected' ships. This was the highest class of vessel in the so-called Voluntary Observing Fleet (the three classes are Selected, Supplementary and Auxiliary). Selected ships were equipped to make observations of wind, weather, baromentric tendency, temperature, clouds and waves, and were as such equipped with an aneroid barometer, a barograph, wet and dry-bulb thermometers, and a sea thermometer and bucket. Officers who made these observations did so ona voluntary basis, since it was felt the observations would therefore be of a higher standard. Ships were required to code and transmit their observations four times a day. 70pp in paper covers.
