Supplementary Ship's Meteorological Logbook
This is an example of a standardised meteorological logbook issued by the Met Office. The log is desgined for use on 'Supplementary' ships. This was the middle class of vessel in the so-called Voluntary Observing Fleet (the three classes are Selected, Supplementary and Auxiliary). Supplementary ships were equipped to make observations of wind, weather and clouds, and were as such equipped with an aneroid barometer and wet and dry-bulb thermometers. Officers who made these observations did so ona voluntary basis, since it was felt the observations would therefore be of a higher standard. Ships were required to code and transmit their observations four times a day. 84pp in paper covers.
