On board the Swedish cruise ship Gripsholm (1925) in the Gatun Locks, Panama Canal. The photographer is looking forward from the starboard side of the forward end of the promenade deck showing members of the crew on the forecastle and lifeboat number 1 on the right. The ship is in the north chamber of the east set of locks heading south with the lock gate to the middle chamber visible ahead of the ship. The north chamber has not yet filled sufficiently to allow the ship to move forward.
