A starboard side view, taken from abaft the beam, of the Cunard White Star Line cruise ship Laconia (1922) moored stern-on to Quarry Wharf in Grand Harbour, Malta. The photographer is in the Upper Barrakka Gardens, with the spire and dome of Ta Liesse church in the left foreground. The ship is moored to the wharf and also has both anchors down. She is in the standard livery of black hull and white upperworks but the white has been extended down by one deck. An accommodation ladder is rigged at a shell door amidships and a local passenger tender is alongside. A few dghaisas are close by. A passenger/cargo ship is moored to port of Laconia and at moorings in the middle of the harbour is the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company cruise ship Viceroy of India (1929), seen from abaft her port beam. Moored off Bighi is a Royal Navy Royal Sovereign class battleship. Fort Ricasoli and Rinella are in the background.
