A game of volleyball on board the frigate Falmouth (1959) in the North Atlantic within 200 miles of Iceland

On board the Royal Navy frigate Falmouth (1959) on patrol in the north Atlantic within 200 miles of Iceland during the time known as the 3rd Cod War. The photographer is looking forward from the stern showing the Limbo mortar well in the foreground. A string of light bulbs is hung on the centreline above the mortar. Some of the crew are having a game of volleyball on the helicopter landing pad. The hangar door is closed. A net has been strung across the flight deck and the photographer has noted that this was the only occasion during the three week patrol that it was possible to have sport on the upper deck. The temperature was a reported one degree centigrade.
