Ship Cover for the Agamemnon class turret ships HMS Agamemnon (1879) and HMS Ajax (1880). The documentation mainly relates to statements of dminesions and weights, initial design proposals for the new ships [including comparisons with HMS Temeraire (1876)], cost estimates, stability calculations, Froude's hull form calculations, allocated armament and ammunition [with some mention of later alterations], structural/constructional issues, fittings and equipment [including boast, engines, anchors, machinery etc], crew complement, development and arrangements of turrets and armour protection, and a copy of the official Parliamentary Returns for both ships. The papers commence in March 1875 with the initial proposals for the design and function of these ships and end with the breaking up of Agamemnon in January 1903.
