The Canal Levassor in the town of Fort-de-France, Martinique. The photographer is looking north-by-east along the canal from the west bank near the harbour entrance. A number of rowing boats are in the foreground including one named Labarbebleue. Fishing nets are hanging up to dry on the left. An iron arched footbridge crosses the canal in the background. Commercial premises line the east side of the canal including the fish market (Marché aux Poissons) near the foorbridge and the Au Petit Pavillon.
