The town of Saint Pierre, Martinique. The photographer is close to the shore looking north-north-east showing piles of rocks on either side of the road with houses beyond. A motor lorry is parked by the houses. Saint Pierre was almost totally destroyed when the Mount Pelee volcano erupted on 8 May 1902 and the cloud covered volcano is in the background.
