The landing steps and central square at St. Nazaire, France.

The landing steps and the central square at St. Nazaire, France. The photographer is looking across the water to the landing and the main square showing a large number of men, including uniformed gendarmes, standing in the square and many are looking towards the cameraman. A number of motor cars and three 2-wheeled baggage carts are waiting in the square. Impressive buildings are on either side of the main street and the nearest one on the left is flying the United States flag. A tall steel lattice mast is in the centre and beyond it, strung across the street, is a large banner reading "Welcome to our visitors".
