Dragon boat racing off Apia, Upolo, Samoa
A general view of six multi-oared canoes, commonly called dragon boats, preparing for a race off Apia, Upolu, Samoa. The photographer is on board the Cunard Line passenger cruise ship Franconia (1923) looking towards the shore showing one of the ship's motor lifeboats and another motor boat escorting the dragon boats. At the water's edge on the extreme left is the Mulivai cathedral of Apia built between 1852 and 1857.
