A very distant view of the USSR/Ukranian sailing training ship Tovarysh (1933) and the sail training ship Sir Winston Churchill (1966), with other vessels leaving Tynemouth harbour during the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Race in July 1993. The Tovarysh can be seen in the distance under power, heading into the North Sea. Off its the stern is an unidentified grey patrol/coastguard vessel.The Sir Winston Churchill is following. Some of the crew are unfurling the fore topsail. A variety of moored small craft can be seen on the left hand side of the image. The wall of the Tynemouth Pier and a partial view of a person's leg can be seen in the foreground.
