The three-quarter length bust of a female representation of the City of Liverpool. She is wearing a ‘mural crown’ over hair tied by a ribbon at the nape of her neck. The trail-board has the city’s crest carved just below the bust, incorporating the cormorant (referred to as the Liver Bird) holding a piece of seaweed in its beak within a shield.
Signed by James P. Peake [Master Shipwright, Devonport Dockyard, 1859-]. The plan includes an Admiralty Letter Book number S2419.
