The photographer is looking west from an elevated vantage point by Number 1 graving dock showing a Trident tanker in No. 2 graving dock, a Federal Steam Navigation Company cargo liner in No. 3 graving dock and a British Petroleum Company tanker in No. 4 graving dock.  The bow of the tanker British Duchess (1958) is alongside the Western Breakwater.  A Royal Navy repair ship of the Resource class (1967) has her stern to the camera.
