The western end of the north bay in No. 1 Smithery in Chatham Dockyard. Against the end wall on the right is a small hearth, cooling trough, crane and work bench installed about 1860. A sheet of corrugated iron is propped up above it. A work bench and vice are in the left foreground. The windows are boarded up internally. The photographer is looking west.
