Whales’ Graveyard
Poster, 'Whales’ Graveyard', circa 1970s, made by Friends of the Earth. The text lists 'purchases' that contain whale products, including cosmetics, oils, fat,s films, perfumes, and petfood.
Friends of the Earth targeted the UK Government to support anti-whaling movements following the support of a temporary 10 year moratorium in 1972. Public awareness of whaling and human impacts on marine systems was already increasing through the 1960s.
The Endangered Species Act that became law in 1976, which included a ban on the imports of all whale products, was written with the support of Friends of the Earth.
