Damage to the starboard side of the battleship Nelson (1925) in dry dock in Portsmouth Dockyard.

A close-up of the starboard side of the hull of the battleship Nelson (1925) while she is in dry dock in Portsmouth Dockyard, showing the highlighted damage received when in collision with the Cardiff tramp steamer West Wales (1925) off Cape Villano, Spain on 29 Mar. 1931. The hull plating at about station 134 abreast B turret has been indented and the two temporary patches over holes have been removed. The small hole is just above the main deck in the ordnance & electrical artificers' mess. The large cut next to the scuttle is in the seamen's mess on the middle deck. Boards have been suspended over the side to allow the repairs to be undertaken.
