A view of the launching platform at the head of No. 5 Slip, Portsmouth Dockyard, taken from the north side of the slip, during the launching ceremony of the light cruiser Aurora (1936). On the platform are Admiral Sir W W Fisher, Commander-in-Chief, the ship's sponsor Lady Cecilia Fisher and Rear-Admiral R R Turner, the Admiral Superintendent of Portsmouth Dockyard. Lady Fisher is about to cut the rope holding the last dog shore with a mallet and chisel. In the background is an enclosure for Sound and Film Operators.
