The presentation launching casket for the light cruiser Aurora (1936) in Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire.

A study of the presentation launching casket made for the launch of the light cruiser Aurora (1936) by Lady Fisher at Portsmouth Dockyard. The wooden casket is viewed from the front, is rectangular, stands on four small feet and carved on the face of the casket is a representation of the ship's badge, a rising sun over a sea horizon, with the motto "Post Tenebrax Lux" (After darkness, light). Attached to each corner is an upright, limbless, bird-headed, winged sea-griffin. The hinged lid of the casket is open and carved on the inside of the lid is an emblem with the characteristics of the GCB but with a gorged stag's head instead of three crowns, all surrounded by the motto Tria Juncta In Uno (Three joined in one) in a circle, the whole being enclosed by a ring of laurel leaves. Below this main badge are the words Ich Dien (I serve) and a Maltese Cross with a thistle in the centre.
