Looking forward and to starboard across the forecastle from the port side of the destroyer Acheron (1930) in Portsmouth Dockyard. The working cable holder (capstan) is the subject of the photograph and the photographer's camera is at deck level just abaft the holder. The chain cable is fitted in the fixed snugs at the base of the holder.
