On board the light cruiser Glasgow (1936) in Portsmouth Dockyard showing gun lifting arrangements. The photographer is looking forward and to starboard from just aft of the S1 twin 4 inch gun mounting, showing the tubular steel scaffold structure erected over the mounting and giving a close-up of the right 4 inch QF Mk XVI gun being pulled back out of its cradle by the hoist, which is running on a rail at the top of the structure. Berthed outboard of the Glasgow (1936) is the gunnery training ship Iron Duke (1912). The Glasgow was in Portsmouth for repairs 29 Mar. - 10 May 1938. Vertical format.
