Demolition of 100 ton sheerlegs at No. 3 Basin, Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire.
The demolished 100 ton sheerlegs in No. 3 Basin, Portsmouth Dockyard, seen from the quayside between No. 12 and 13 Docks. The front legs of the sheerlegs are floating at an angle and are supporting the lower end of the rear leg which is floating level. The top end of the rear leg has sunk and is holding down the top ends of the front legs. The royal yacht Victoria & Albert (1899) is in the left background berthed on the west side of the basin. The upper works of the battlecruiser Repulse (1916) can just be seen docked down in C Lock in the centre. On the right there is a small oiler with two destroyers berthed inboard of her, the innermost one being the Winchester (1917), pendant H95. In the far right background is the light cruiser Effingham (1921).
