A close up of the hull damage to the side of the destroyer Kelvin (1939) viewed from abreast the starboard side of the forecastle deck while she is berthed in Portsmouth Dockyard. Her ready use shell racks have been damaged. The Kelvin was in collision with the cross channel steamer St Helier (1925) on 1 Dec. 1939, just three days after commissioning. Her hull was holed at station 24 in the seamen's mess on the upper deck where it joins the forecastle deck.
