Collision damage to the starboard forecastle of the destroyer Kelvin (1939) in Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire
A starboard bow view of the destroyer Kelvin (1939) taken from alongside the ship abreast number two gun deck looking forward while she is berthed in Portsmouth Dockyard. The Kelvin was in collision with the cross channel steamer St Helier (1925) on 1 Dec. 1939, just three days after commissioning. Her hull plating has been scraped at station 33 and holed at station 24 in the seamen's mess on the upper deck where it joins the forecastle deck. Her number one gun mount is in the background.
