Temporary scaffold staging on The Arena by No. 2 Dry Dock, Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire
A temporary scaffold and board staging erected on the east side of The Arena, near the head of No. 2 Dry Dock, in Portsmouth Dockyard, looking north-by-west. On the right is the Victory (1765) with her yards sent down. The staging may be for the purposes of a large group photograph with the Victory as a backdrop. The Portsmouth Dockyard negative register number P23/43 is written near the top right corner of the negative.
