A rather portly woman worker using a Heenan & Froude Ltd tin pressing machine in a workshop in Portsmouth Dockyard. She is wearing a boiler suit that is done up with string and is holding a bale of pressed tin cans. The machine is powered by a large electric motor and written on the casing is "Messrs Heenan & Froude's erector, new refuse destructor, c/o M.E.E. New Extension, H.M. Dockyard, Portsmouth." A board on the window sill on the left reads "Yard Clearance Officer. Women Workers. Key. No. 3/191." Empty tin cans on the floor are of Grade 3 Salmon. The Portsmouth Dockyard negative register number P34/43 is written in the bottom right corner of the negative.
