Storage racks for steel plate in the stacking ground at No. 3 Smithery, Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire.
The steel plate stacking ground to the west of No. 3 Smithery, Portsmouth Dockyard, looking north-west. Many of the plates are identified with letters and dimensions and are 30 lb, 25 lb, 20 lb, 17 lb, 14 lb and 5 lb. They are probably for use in the construction of the light cruiser Hawke on No. 5 Slip. The Portsmouth Dockyard negative register number P38/43 is written in the lower right corner of the negative.
