The photographer is looking forward and to port from off the starboard quarter. Under the oerlikon gun platform is the LL cable reel. A scrambling net and dan buoys are in the right foreground and kite otter frames are on the left. The battleship Queen Elizabeth (1913) is in C Lock and the Dutch cruiser Sumatra (1920) is in D Lock in the background. The Portsmouth Dockyard negative register number P198/43 has been written near the bottom of the negative.
